Projects - Sheep Game

Project Details

The Sheep must escape from the compound.
Completion Date: June, 2007
Language: Dark Basic

This game was created as a first year project for university. The specification was quite simple. As a team, create a game using the programming language "Dark Basic". The Sheep Game is a third person shooter featuring a genetically mutated sheep.

The game includes a scheduling engine to dictate the frequency at which program modules should run. Each program module is self contained and can be transported from one project to another quite easily. By running modules at different frequencies, the Sheep Game demonstrated pseudo multi-tasking which made it very responsive. The game has 5 different levels and each is loaded form a separate data file.

There are scripted conversations for all the main characters with a sound track and sound effects. Each level is very different and very interactive to improve the game-play. The Sheep Game is a lot of fun. For this portfolio I wish to emphasise programming rather than design so Picture 3 of 3 and the video below show the tool programmed for level 1 which the team’s designers then dressed as a laboratory. In the video the dog and sheep characters (formerly simple boxes) have clearly been dressed. Pictures 1 and 2 show later levels where the full contribution from the designers is in place.
